This is Dexter, a female Boa constrictor. She is 7 years old, weighs about 25 pounds and measures over 7 foot long! Dexter's calm personality and awesome size and beauty have made her a huge hit with the school kids! She is currently feeding on guinea pigs and medium rabbits, One every two weeks.
This is Dexter's custom terrarium. At 8' long and 2' tall we designed and built this cage to be bolted to the wall. The leg in the middle was an after thought and really holds none of the weight. This enclosure features a large under tank heat pad and a heat lamp, both of which are controlled by a thermostat with a probe inside. It also has a 4' double flourescent fixture mounted inside that's controlled by a timer. Four sliding doors are made of 1/4" tempered glass. The water tub is actually two tubs- one that is recessed into the bottom and screwed in place and a second that slides into the first for easy cleaning. The inside back wall was painted by Rene and then covered with 1/8" glass. The inside side walls are mirrors. The bottom is a high grade, heat resistant plexiglass. Vents are on both sides near the top.
